WHAT IS DIGITIZING?
Digitizing is the process of turning a visual image into stitches, so it can be sewn onto garments.

Karen's Embroidery transforms your image or text into a file format that the embroidery machine can read. Quality digitizing requires an artist's eye as well as problem solving skills in order to render a quality product. The digitizer must know about fabric types and the push-pull factor of each type of fabric. She also must know about needles, thread, and stabilizers and must have a creative eye.

Digitizing of an image for embroidery is not a simple process. It requires the ability to see the overall image as well as the details. A good digitizer must be able mentally divide the image into layers and sections, see how colors in the piece blend and merge into one another, and determine how to apply thread colors so that shadows, mood, and clarity of the image is maintained in the embroidery process.

I use my digitizing software, computer keyboard, and mouse to create a work of art. I separate sections for redrawing and resizing when necessary. I then order the stitching in underlay and overlay threads and assigns stitching sequences that use thread to apply color and shading. Then I reassemble the design so that it resembles the original image as closely as possible.
